About the Temple
Famed as one of the Pancha Bhoota Stalas representing the element of Air (Vayu), Srikalahasti is situated along the banks of the Swarnamukhi River. The temple is celebrated for its legendary association with Bhakta Kannappa, Sage Vasistha, and Sri Adi Shankaracharya. Constructed originally by the Pallava kings in the 5th century and vastly expanded by the Chola emperors and Vijayanagara rulers (notably Krishnadevaraya who built the majestic 100-pillared mandapam), the temple features a massive 120-foot gopuram overlooking the town.
