About the Temple
Nestled at the foot of the Tirumala hills near a roaring cascading waterfall, the Kapileswara Swamy Temple is the only ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva in Tirupati. Built during the 10th and 11th centuries by the Pallava and Vijayanagara monarchs, the temple holds immense religious importance as the place where Sage Kapila performed rigorous penance. The large sacred water tank, Kapila Theertham, adds to its serene historical atmosphere.
