About the Temple
Situated on the holy banks of the Krishna River, Amaravati houses one of the five sacred Pancharama Kshetras. The presiding deity, Lord Amaralingeswara, is installed on a massive white marble Shiva Linga. Historically, Amaravati was not only a major Hindu pilgrimage center dating back to the Satavahana empire (when it was a thriving capital and Buddhist hub), but its temple also underwent extensive restorations by the medieval kings and local lords.
